DreamDuo vs Paired: Which Couples App Should You Use?

Paired helps you talk more. DreamDuo helps you plan and save together. A side-by-side look at features and prices, and which one fits your relationship.

If you want to talk more as a couple, get Paired. If you keep making plans together and losing track of them, get DreamDuo.

Both apps have a daily question, which is why people compare them. Their main focus differs. Paired is built around conversation and relationship content. DreamDuo is built around the goals you share, like a deposit, a trip or a habit.

What Paired does well

Paired focuses on daily conversations, quizzes and relationship content. Its free version also includes a timeline and special dates; Premium adds courses and relationship insights. It is more than a question feed, even though questions are a useful place to start.

Its daily question is the whole point of the app, and it's done carefully. You both answer, and you can't see your partner's answer until you've given yours, so neither of you gets swayed. The questions are written with help from therapists. Premium adds guided courses on topics like money and love languages, plus quizzes and games for different stages of a relationship.

Paired also markets itself to long-distance couples, and that makes sense. A daily question is an easy way to stay close when you can't see each other.

Where DreamDuo is different

DreamDuo's daily question is a small part of the app. The main part is shared goals.

You create a goal, and you both add progress to it. It could be an amount (a house deposit), a checklist (planning a wedding), a habit (walking four evenings a week) or time (hours spent learning a language). The app shows whether you're on track, and sends alerts as you hit milestones.

A few features don't really have an equivalent in Paired:

  • Secret contributions. Add to a goal without your partner seeing it, then reveal it on a date or at a milestone.
  • Future letters. Write a message and lock it until a date, or until a goal is finished.
  • The Sunday Summit. A five minute weekly check-in on how your goals are going.
  • Everything in one place. Save photos, links from sites like Pinterest or YouTube, and files to each goal.

Streaks matter too. As your couple streak grows, milestones at 3, 7, 14, 30, 60 and 100 days unlock new question packs.

Price

Paired's monthly plan is the pricier of the two at $14.99. Its yearly plans vary a lot depending on the offer you're shown, from about $39.99 to $74.99, so check what you're actually being charged.

DreamDuo Pro is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Both apps have a free version you can use without paying.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Paired if the problem is conversation. You've drifted into only talking about chores and plans, and you want a small daily nudge to talk about more. Its therapist-written content is also something DreamDuo doesn't try to offer.

Pick DreamDuo if the problem is follow-through. You talk plenty, you agree on what you want, and then the plan quietly dies because it had nowhere to live.

Some couples may want both, though their daily questions overlap. If you only want one, start with whichever problem is bothering you more right now.
